Position Description:

The primary responsibility of the Advocate is to initiate, organize, plan, develop, and implement direct advocacy services to assigned clients and their families. All service plans will be based on a strength-based approach using the wrap around model.

Company Information: Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) is one of the largest non-profit Youth and Family Support agencies working with high-risk youth and their families in the United States. Currently, YAP employs more than 2,000 dedicated workers and serves approximately 10,000 families per year.  Our mission is to engage human service systems so that they rely less on institutional care and invest more in supporting families and neighborhoods. We currently work with child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral health, disability, primary health care, and education systems to develop and offer community-based alternatives for the highest risk children, young people, young adults and families, and adults. 

 

Summary of the Position: Assist the Program Coordinator in carrying out a coordinated community response to victims by utilizing partners of the SAVSC (South Alabama Victim Service Center) and others to link clients to services for housing/shelter assistance, food/clothing, employment, and emergency needs; provide direct wraparound advocacy services as needed, including but not limited to court advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating and/or stalking violence. 

Required Qualifications:

 Qualifications/Requirements:  High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required. Associate Degree is preferred. Experience working in the community in a related human services field at a minimum. Bachelor’s degree in mental health related field such as psychology, social worker, or related discipline is preferred. Must have access to reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and carry auto insurance coverage with a minimum bodily injury liability of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident.
