I have learned many things while in the Youth Advocate Program (YAP). I could not even begin to fathom where I would be without the YAP. The YAP has helped me tremendously, whether it was making me realize how important school is, how to be independent, how to be professional and most importantly why you should give back to the community. The YAP has helped me to find out who I was in life.
If it was not for the YAP i would be most likely still be getting bad grades and not caring about anything. The YAP helped me to realize that I will not get anywhere without a good education. Being disrespectful to teachers who are trying to help me will only hurt me.The YAP has showed me the Importance of respect.
I now know how to be independent and why I should not count on anyone. If you want something done, you have to do it yourself. The YAP has also showed me why it is important to be respectful to others. Disrespect will get you nowhere in life. You have to give others the respect you want in return. If you're a disrespectful person no one is going to like you or be around you for that matter and thats not a good thing.
YAP has showed me the significance of professionalism. There are times when you just need to be professional and when do not have to be. It is important to be professional when you're in a job interview. No one wants to hire someone who does not conduct themselves in a professional manner. People want to hire professionals.
Giving back to your community is a good thing. Not only are you giving back to the community, you are giving back to those who are less fortunate than you. I learned that while I was volunteering at the Lebanon County Christian Ministries food bank. Some kids that are in programs like that only get one meal a day and I am just happy I could help contribute to their nutrition needs.
The YAP has helped me to decide my future. I never knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. They opened my eyes to new ideas, showed me new things. I now know how important college is and why I am going to college.
In conclusion, I can not stress enough how much the YAP has helped me to become a better person. It changed my life completely. lt was definitely a change for the better. I feel good about the decisions I make now. I have helped a lot of people just so I can feel good about it later. I thank each and everyone that has helped me.
Thank you for your consideration.

I would like to nominate Shimira Gardner for the YAP Endowment Scholarship. As a client of YAP, Shimira has grown into a productive young lady with a bright future. Despite many obstacles, she has persevered and bloomed into nothing less of a "Success Story". Attached is a letter written by Shimira that by all accounts proves that she would be a worthy recipient of the scholarship.
