Resources  >  Endowment Nomination

In 2004, YAP started our Youth Endowment Fund, and it was renamed the Tom Jeffers Endowment Funding for Continuing Education in 2014, in honor of YAP's founder. The purpose of the fund is to support our youth and families in pursuing college or vocational schools to advance their skills and economic opportunities. The Endowment began awarding scholarships in 2007. Since its inception, we have raised over $1 million for the Endowment and awarded 63 scholarships. Over 100 YAP employees contribute to this fund through weekly payroll deductions.

If you are interested in helping support this program for youth and families by donating as little as $1 a week, click here.

If you would like to nominate a youth to receive a scholarship, please follow the steps below.

  1. Letters: A YAP staff must write a nomination letter, and the designated youth must write an application letter. The staff letter should detail why you think the youth deserves a scholarship, and what it will be used toward. Your youth’s letter should describe what YAP has done for them and what they plan on doing in the future. For ideas, you can visit the YAP website in the Youth Endowment section under “What We Do” to view letters written by other youth and staff.
  2. Submission: Have the youth complete the Application and submit with nomination letters to Nan Davis at ndavis@yapinc.org.
  3. Review: The Endowment Board will take no more than one week to review the letters and vote on whether or not to award the scholarship.
  4. Notification: Whomever emailed David White will receive notification immediately following the vote. An award letter will be produced with further instructions.
  5. Publicity: Ask your young person to sign a Media Release indicating what type of publicity they are comfortable with- announcing their name and hopefully sharing their image (photo). Email the media release to Nan Davis at ndavis@yapinc.org. Nan will contact the Communications team so that your youth’s information will be on the website and on YAP’s various social media. We also encourage you to try to plan a formal event to give the youth the ceremonial check that includes their family, the referral authority and other local officials present.
  6. Issuance of official check – contact Shannon Grove with the name, address, and contact information for the school as well as the student information for the recipient.
