For the second year, the Gettysburg F.O.E. #1562 Eagle Riders Group is hosting Eagle Riders Roll and Rock for Autism to benefit the Adams County Youth Advocate Programs (YAP), Inc. Autism and Developmental Disabilities Services, Supports, Education and Training (ASSET) Program. The event will take place May 11, 2019, at YAP’s Gettysburg office (57 N. 5th St.), beginning at 8 a.m. with a community revealing of Adams County YAP’s new family waiting room, designed for individuals with autism who struggle with interpreting incoming sensory information.
Registration for the Roll portion of the event is at 8:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 10 a.m. The scenic ride will conclude at Gettysburg Moose Park where the Rock after party takes place from 3 p.m.– 8 p.m., with performances by Rising Tide and Rabid Assassin. YAP Central Pennsylvania Autism Field Support Coordinator Jennifer Williams will conduct tours of the new family waiting room from 9:00 a.m. – noon.
YAP’s ASSET program empowers individuals to access opportunities and develop skills to realize independence, contribute to society, and be valued assets in their communities. The Adams County office’s new sensory room features a four-foot bubble lamp, soft led lighting, individual pods, a sensory table, alternative seating, fiber optic waterfall, and more.
“We are extremely grateful to the Eagle Riders for the funding that made our new space possible, which will serve as a safe place not just for the individuals we serve, but their families and our staff as well,” said Adams and York YAP Programs Program Director Robert Witt. “We greatly appreciate that the Eagle Riders have once again, chosen YAP’s ASSET Program as the beneficiary of their Roll and Rock for Autism event. Dollars raised, like last year, will be used to directly benefit the people in our Adams County YAP ASSET program, where individuals and families are able to access educational, job training and other tools that provide opportunities for real inclusion for the people we serve.”
The event is open to all motorcycle riders and non-riders. Presale tickets are $15.00, $20.00 the day of the event. Donations will cover the Roll and Rock event, the after party, food, beverages, and entertainment.
“The Roll and Rock Autism benefit is a great opportunity for the community to come together in support of Adams County residents with intellectual disabilities and their families,” Witt said.
