A $1,500 gift from Cargill will help Adams County, Pa. Youth Advocate Programs and Adult Services (YAP), Inc. create a community garden. YAP works with child welfare, youth justice, education and social services systems in the county to provide community-based developmental disabilities, autism, behavioral health and other services to individuals and families. YAP empowers young people by helping them identify and realize their strengths while connecting them and their parents/guardians to tools that help them firm the family’s foundation.

YAP plans to plant this season  and then share produce from the garden with children and families they serve as well as others in the county. The garden will be located behind the YAP office in Gettysburg.

Founded in Harrisburg, Pa., YAP has expanded in 44 years to more than 100 communities in 23 states and the District of Columbia. The nonprofit is exclusively committed to providing community-based alternatives to out-of-home care through direct service, advocacy and policy change. YAP is a nationally recognized leader in providing strength-based, needs-driven, community-based care for youth and families. YAP is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
